"If you do not first, you're last." While that line dom in the film Talladega Nights was, it may ring true in the world of marketing, at least sometimes. Chasing "first", for example, certainly not turn out well during the internet bubble for most companies.
Regardless, back in the end of 2010, Nissan and GM rushed to the first car manufacturers to the first mass-produced plug-in vehicles. Still, more than half a year later, it is not yet clear whether both car manufacturer has really released.
According to the latest messages are combined deliveries for the Chevy Volt and Nissan leaf 4,351 vehicles, with the Volt in barely 2,184 deliveries.
Is this acceptable?
Sure, some bugs were to be expected at the launch of the kinds of technologies of the next gen found in the Volt and the leaf, but were both plug-in vehicles over promised and under delivered?
It is probably a bit too early to that conversation just yet. Still, it seems clear that neither vehicle really ready for launch. Both should probably had 2012 launches. Of course, then not have been possible first. Nevertheless, if deliveries for both vehicles back on the rails in the next few months-something can be both GM and Nissan promising – than these delivery failures must not be a long-term result of collateral damage.
If, however problems linger into next year, perhaps more feel as though your last.
